Perforated white PVC pipes are laid in the bottom of the excavated trenches for the drain field. These pipes have holes on the bottom to allow the treated wastewater to drain into the surrounding soil. The pipes are carefully set on wooden stakes to ensure they are at the perfect, level height, which is about 6 inches above the trench bottom. After the pipes are in place, washed rock is carefully poured into the trenches, completely surrounding the pipes. This rock layer provides an area for the water to dissipate and for biological treatment to occur.
